Video and photos of UM students marched supports Lecturer



The students of the University of Malaya (UM) - mostly law students - have boycotted their classes on Wednesday morning to attend the peace march on the university grounds in Lembah Pantai as a sign of support for their lecturer Associate Professor Dr Azmi Sharom, who recently This prosecuted under the Sedition Act.

The march, organized by the Association of University Students (Students' Union) was also attended by some academics and politicians.




They started the march from the Faculty of Law and head to Speakers' Corner not far from there that once a field the students expressed their dissatisfaction over any internal and external issues.
The students were seen starting their march at 12.30pm while chanting slogans demanding particular including the Sedition Act was repealed.

They also carry banners stating support of Azmi and demanding freedom of speech in an academic institution.

Who participated in the procession, including MPs from DAP Puchong, Gobind Singh, Member of Legislative Assembly (Assembly) Kota Damansara, Yeo Bee Yin, Segamat MP Lim Lip Eng and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Selangor, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Dr Azmi, who is also a columnist for the daily newspaper The Star, was charged on September 2 under the Sedition Act 1948 for making a comment on the role played by the Castle in Perak leadership crisis in 2009. , he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
